Sustainable IT Footprint

Carbon footprint. Energy efficiency. Power management. Sustainable practices. Catchwords of a new marketing culture or critical requirements for securing our planet’s future? At iNet Inc., we believe in the latter and are proud to have introduced and implemented several initiatives that focus on reducing the consumption and waste associated with Information Technology infrastructure. Our Total IT Outsourcing, Hosted Terminal Services, and Hosted Virtual Server platforms are at the core of our Green business values, reducing energy consumption, materials usage, and waste at the end of the life cycle. In doing so, we effectively help organizations that use our services cut their TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) – the direct and indirect costs of IT products and systems. The sheer volume of computers, monitors, servers, and peripheral devices that are manufactured and in use today all adds up. It creates a vast and ever-growing carbon footprint, which is the total set of greenhouse gas emissions indirectly or directly caused by the manufacture, use, and disposal of such equipment and infrastructure. We believe in stemming this tide and doing our part by adopting intelligent, efficient, and conservative IT practices that truly have us feeling Green... and saving you some Green. For our environmentally-friendly business model and IT practices, we are certified as a Sacramento Sustainable Business with the Sacramento County’s Business Environmental Resource Center (BERC).

Environmentally Preferable Purchasing and Materials Recycling
EPP requirements are increasingly being integrated into major purchasing initiatives in IT organizations and we at iNet are continuing to adopt increasingly environmentally preferable purchasing practices. Having aligned ourselves to meet these requirements, the equipment we purchase and implement are selected based on having a minimal impact on the environment, from power consumption to the materials used and waste generated. We also participate in Materials Recycling initiatives for old and obsolete equipment; promoting the sensible re-use of key materials and contributing to the reduction of landfills and of harmful chemicals being released into the ecosystem.
  Virtualization
As Virtualization allows for several physical systems to be integrated into virtual machines residing on one single system, it effectively reduces materials use and power consumption by several fold. This is part and parcel of our Managed Hosting solutions whereby you implement most of your systems and applications as resources on our virtualized machines, rather than invest in the purchase and operation of actual hardware. Less hardware means less of a footprint from their manufacture, power consumption, and waste disposal and means more for the environment and eco-systems in the long run.
  Thin Client Solutions
It has been demonstrated that thin-client computing can reduce life-cycle energy consumption by as much as 70-80%. With this sort of energy savings, the decision to promote and implement this solution as part of our Managed Services was a no-brainer. When implemented organization-wide, the staggering reduction in use of hardware assets and energy savings are immediately felt. As one of the most sustainable practices in IT yet, our thin-client solutions are meant to take nothing away from your productivity while adding to the bottom-line of your organization, as well as the planet’s.
  Energy Efficiency and Integrated Facilities
Our storage and colocation facilities are optimized for energy usage and infrastructure investment, from terminal servers and storage arrays that have a low energy footprint to the efficient consolidation and design of our facilities. Our infrastructure takes advantage of new technologies that allow for significant reductions in non-renewable resources, operations costs, and electrical load. Furthermore, our solutions allow for a greater basket of savings on your end, from power consumption and office work areas to materials purchase and disposal.
